Airports to Avoid This Travel Season.

When planning your travels this year, it's important to consider which airports to avoid in order to minimize potential travel headaches. Some airports are currently undergoing construction, which can lead to delays and inconvenience for passengers. By avoiding booking flights through these hubs, you can ensure a smoother journey. Although these airports are expected to be updated with maximum amenities upon completion, it's best to steer clear of them for now.

One airport to avoid is Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD). This airport may experience delays due to construction on Terminal Areas which include Satellite Concourses 1 and 2 and the O’Hare Global Terminal. It may be advisable to choose an alternative airport nearby to avoid any potential travel disruptions. The current construction timeline states the first satellite concourse is to be completed in 2027 and the second satellite concourse is proposed to reach completion in 2028. The construction of a large tunnel connecting passengers and baggage between the O’Hare Global Terminal and the satellite concourses is anticipated to begin this spring with a completion date of 2030. After construction the Chicago O'Hare International Airport will have new terminals, on-airport hotels, airfield and taxiway improvements.

Manchester Airport in the United Kingdom (MAN) is another airport that should be avoided during this travel season. The airport is already a stressful hub when traveling due to understaffing and delays, add the construction beginning this year and you have a recipe for major travel inconvenience and much longer wait times for passengers. Opting for a different airport can help you avoid unnecessary travel hassles. Upon construction completion Manchester Airport, a key hub in the U.K.,will have modernized and expanded its facilities.

Additionally, John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is currently under construction. The expected total project completion of two new international terminal complexes, redesigned airport roads and parking to ease traffic woes, plus new dining, luxury retail, conference and meeting space should be completed by 2025. There will also be newly added security features to JFK such as tech driven identification of unattended packages and radiation detection. Expanding rail connections is also in the works and the good news here is once the long awaited construction is complete, this airport will be an outstanding hub to use for travel.

Lastly, Florence Peretola Airport in Italy (FLR) is currently undergoing construction, which may lead to travel complications. The construction includes a living roof with vineyard! This will include 38 rows of productive vineyard, the grapes will be cultivated and harvested by leading local vitners, plus the wine will be produced and aged on site at specialized cellars. The runway is being lengthened and reorientated 90 degrees away from nearby hills, which should help with capacity. There are also plans to connect the airport terminal to a sustainable light rail system which will add convenience and speed up travel to Florence. It's recommended to avoid travel through this airport and instead consider alternative options for booking flights to this Tuscan region. Although upon completion you may want to specifically get a flight to this amazing Italian Airport.

When planning your travels this year, it's important to be aware of airports undergoing construction. By avoiding booking flights through these airports, you can minimize potential travel headaches and ensure a smoother journey. Although these airports are expected to be updated with maximum amenities upon completion, it's best to choose alternative airports for the time being.
